What is meditation based healing?

Meditation based healing is my holistic approach to recovery. It combines physiotherapy with breathing techniques, muscle relaxation and guided meditation. It is based on a simple idea that research supports: the body and mind are closely connected.

When pain lasts for months, it affects much more than the body. It can disturb sleep, mood, concentration and relationships. Stress can, in turn, make muscles tighter and pain feel stronger. Physical treatment alone sometimes does not break this cycle. Adding calm breathing and mindful awareness helps the nervous system settle, so the body can relax and recover.

This approach does not replace medical care or physiotherapy. It supports them.

Who it helps

  • People with long term back, neck or joint pain who feel stuck, tired or anxious about their pain
  • Office workers with stress related tension in the neck and shoulders
  • People with tension type headaches linked to posture and stress
  • People who sleep poorly because of pain or worry
  • People with fibromyalgia, alongside their doctor’s care
  • Anyone recovering from illness, injury or surgery who wants to feel calmer and more in control

Common signs you may need it

  • Pain that has lasted more than three months
  • Feeling tense, restless or on edge most of the day
  • Tight jaw, shoulders or neck by the end of the day
  • Shallow, fast breathing, or holding your breath when concentrating
  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Feeling that your pain controls your life

How I help

Sessions are calm, simple and practical. Depending on your needs, they may include:

  • Breathing practice: slow, deep belly breathing that helps the body relax
  • Progressive muscle relaxation: gently tightening and releasing muscle groups to let go of tension
  • Guided meditation and body awareness: noticing sensations without fear or judgement
  • Gentle movement: stretching, mobility and simple yoga inspired movements, adapted to your body
  • Pain education: understanding how pain works, which reduces fear and helps you move more
  • Physiotherapy for the main problem: hands on therapy and exercise where needed

I also help you build short daily routines, five to ten minutes at a time, that fit into a busy life.

Your first session

We start with a conversation about your pain or stress, your sleep, your daily routine and your goals. I assess posture, movement and areas of tension. Then I guide you through a short breathing and relaxation practice so you can feel how it works. You will leave with one simple practice to do every day.

How many sessions you may need

Most people benefit from six to eight sessions, often alongside physiotherapy for their main problem. Like any skill, breathing and relaxation become more effective with regular practice. Many patients tell me that after a few weeks they feel calmer, sleep better and handle their pain with more confidence. Everyone is different, so I review progress with you regularly.

Frequently asked questions

Is meditation based healing a replacement for medical treatment?

No. It is a supportive approach that works alongside physiotherapy and your doctor's treatment. It does not replace medicines or medical care.

I have never meditated. Can I still do this?

Yes. No experience is needed. I teach simple breathing and relaxation steps that anyone can learn, whether sitting on a chair or lying down.

Can this be done online?

Yes. Breathing, relaxation and guided meditation work very well in online sessions, and you can practise in the comfort of your own home.
